Our maximum guide-to-guest ratio is 1:12—ensuring you receive personalized attention as you embark on this enchanting journey.
How many guests do you take up per night?
Our permit allows for a maximum of 2 vehicles per night, and each vehicle can carry up to 12 passengers; plenty of space for camaraderie under the stars!
Do you operate the tour every night?
Absolutely! We offer this unforgettable experience every night—weather permitting, of course; the Hawaiian sky is truly a treasure.
Are children allowed on this tour?
Unfortunately, children under 13 are not permitted on this tour due to the altitude; we aim to create a safe environment for all our guests.
Is there much walking or hiking on this tour?
Not really—there is approximately 150 yards of walking involved, which is rated as easy; perfect for explorers of all levels.
Will I be able to hike & explore the summit on my own?
Sadly, due to safety & permitting restrictions, guests cannot explore the summit before sunset on their own. You’ll need to stay near our guides & vehicles while savoring the adventure.

How cold is it at the summit of Maunakea?
At the summit, the average mean temperature can drop to around 32 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 Celsius; it can be quite chilly, so dress warmly!
What if it’s cloudy on Maunakea?
The summit and visitor center areas are typically above the clouds; however, conditions can be unpredictable. If we can safely reach the visitor's center or summit, we do our best to keep the adventure alive, even if the weather presents a little challenge!
